THIS MESSAGE IS FOR YOU - IF YOU ARE WAITING TO HAVE YOUR SHORELINE
HYDRO-RAKED:
Although the Hydro-raking program was stopped when the
Wellesley harvester was damaged, the Program can be revived, if:
1. The Natural Resources Commission permits it to continue given the
conditions noted in 2. below.
2. You are willing to have hydro-raked material deposited in your yard
either for your compost pile or for disposal.
3. There are a minimum of 6 (six) participants willing to continue
which allows Aquatic Control Technology to justify bringing the hydro-rake
back to Morses Pond from Connecticut where it has been sent for another job.
The tentative start date for the Revived Hydro-raking Program
is the day after the long Memorial Day weekend, that is, Tuesday, May 26,
2009.
The order of work is the same as before and will pick-up at
property noted as B4 which is the next property after the one where work
stopped. As before, participants will be notified the day before their
shoreline is to be hydro-raked.
ACTION NEEDED
Please e-mail a reply to fortmiller at comcast.net if either:
A. You wish to continue your participation in the Revived Hydro-raking
Program, or
B. You do not wish to participate but wish to have returned your fee
being held by the Treasurer of the Friends of Morses Pond, Kent Fox.
So everyone is accounted for and there is a definitive list
of participants for the Revived Hydro-raking Program, I am awaiting
responses one way or another from all Morses Pond participating abutters who
have not yet had their shoreline hydro-raked.

The opportunity to hydro-rake shore line still exists if you are willing to
have the raked material deposited the shore. You will then be responsible
for removing and composting the material. To do this, we need at least 6
people. Please contact Fred Fortmiller as soon as possible 781-235-3090
fortmiller at comcast.net.
Thanks

Morses Pond Shoreline Improvement
Hydro-Raking Program Abutters and Friends
May 14, 2009
Yesterday, the hydro-raking program ran into serious, near terminal
difficulty. The hydro-rake has been picking up stones and rocks that
inevitably happens if it is to clear out rooted plants. The harvester has
been used for collecting and transporting hydro-raked material that will
eventually be sent to the Recycling Center for composting. But, the
harvester was not designed for handling stones and rocks.
The series of attached images provide a pictorial story of what is
happening. The conveyors (there are three) on the harvester are getting
ripped apart. You will note that some sections of the conveyor have already
been replaced and work is continuing to replace other sections so the
harvester can do what it was designed to do, that is, harvest the weeds. We
have been told that replacing all of the conveyor, will cost about $4,000
just for material exclusive of labor. Continued use of the harvester for
collecting harvested material, everyone agrees, is not a good idea.
Aquatic Control Technology has a specially designed harvester that they use
as a barge for hydro-raking activities. But, it is busy and is not
available through the rest of the summer. It costs $165 per hour with an
operator. Since the hydro-rake costs $185 per hour and the standard work
time is 2 hours per abutter shoreline, the total cost for two hours
hydro-raking is $700. The time to hydro-rake is in the spring. Before
then, we can revisit hydro-raking again if there is continued interest.
Call if you have questions. Of course, refunds of fee deposits are in order
for those participants who did not get hydro-raked.

Fred Fortmiller, for the Committee
