Hydro-raking Meeting Notes. March 11, 2009. Town Hall.

On March 11, 2009, Jack Fitzgerald, the Field Operations Manager, and Gerry Smith, the President and founder of Aquatic Control Technology, INC. presented the "Hydro-raking Shore Improvement Program at Morses Pond".

The Program has been organized for abutters of Morses Pond who wish to improve their shorelines. A hydro-rake is a machine that will rake up invasive plants including their root systems, leaves and other debris, and may help to improve the Pond overall. The Natural Resources Commission, Wetlands Committee has provided a permit to allow hydro-raking the Pond shoreline including the shoreline of abutters.

Aquatic Control Technology's presentation can be found at:

A sign-up form containing more details, including cost, can be found at:
http://www.morsespond.org/fomp/meetings/2009_0311_hydro_raking_morses_pond_sign_up.pdf

Note that the sign-up form is an agreement between an abutter and Aquatic Control Technology but the Friends of Morses Pond is sponsoring the program and is handling the funds. The deadline is April 8.

The hydro-raking process consists of permitting, transporting the hydro-rake to/from the pond, operating the hydro-rake, transporting the raked material to the shore, and disposing of the material at an appropriate composting site.

Since the Recreation Department is paying to bring the hydro-rake to clean up the Town Beach, abutters do not have to absorb this cost. The Town's weed harvester will be used to transport the raked material to shore so it can be collected and transported to the Recycling & Disposal Facility. The Department of Public Works is only charging for labor and not use of equipment. Thus, each abutter will be paying only for the operation of the hydro-rake by their house and the Town labor to transport the harvested material.

Some abutters have expressed an interest in more than the standard two hours of hydro-raking. You can call Fred Fortmiller at 781-235-3090 if you have any questions and particularly if you want to arrange for a representative from Aquatic Control Technology to visit your property to find out if more than two hours of hydro-raking might be appropriate for your shoreline. .

Please sign up by April 8th. Hydro-raking will start early in May.
